I am Worthy
WorthyFoe's first introduction to art as community engagement was through the teachings of Juana Alicia at Urban Arts in Oakland, CA U.S.A. when they painted a four-story mural at Calvin Simmons Middle School. Since then, WorthyFoe has continued to use art as a channel for community engagement through instruction, curating, and travel. During their studies at Cal State East Bay under the guidance of Dr. Mark Levy and Professor Lanier Graham, Worthy Foe's fascination for Eastern Philosophy and Shamanism deepened.
As an abstract representational artist, Worthy Foe explores ancient futurism, nature deities, plant medicine, and dreamwork using various mediums such as charcoal, paint, clay, and foraged objects. Their recent works include mixed media altarpieces, clay ritual objects, and talismans.
Their most notable works include community altar installation for Place and Displaced at SOMArts San Francisco, CA, a retrospective solo show at Sole Space Oakland, mural for Calles Corazon Rejuvenation Project in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and artist collaborations for La Linea in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba.
WorthyFoe currently teaches Ceramic and 3D Sculpture in Northern, California.
I am Protected
Culture, medicine, and community. Channeling art and dreamwork. Traditions, folklore, songs and dance. Dense forest, damp jungles, loud streets. Calling on mystery, magic and healing. Masked animals, powerful plants, pulsating color. Collaborations, chants and spells. Community joyfully together, a circle around an ancestor tree. Stars blast thru darkness. Sunbeams glisten off the sea. Somewhere inspiration sneaks up between the silence and the beat.
Protected, 8ft by 8ft mural for upcoming group show curated by Kdub (Town Park).
